It can be both a blessing or a curse to work from home. You don’t need to commute to work, your boss doesn’t have the ability to monitor your movements, and you can complete your work in a place that is comfortable for you. But at the other hand it’s easy to become distracted by the things around your home. If you are too comfortable, like on the couch or bed, it’s easy to get lazy.

For some people it is incredibly difficult to stay productive while working from home. You have to learn to accept it. Here are some tips to help you stay productive, since many of us work from home.

Make a morning routine

You don’t need to get up at 5 am every morning to beat traffic. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t just get out of bed and go. You will be able to keep your mind focused and on the task at hand. Focusing on the morning is key to a productive day.

Dress as if you’re in the office

Your business attire doesn’t necessarily have to be your regular outfit. You don’t have to stay in your pajamas the entire day. All your days can become blurred if you work from home for an indefinite period of time. It can make you feel more refreshed and ready to tackle the next day if you take the time for yourself to get dressed, wash your hair, and apply makeup each morning.

Choose a  specific space for your “office”

If you don’t have an office, you can create one. This will make you feel more productive. You should make it a habit to stay there the whole time you work. If you live with your partner, your roommate or your children, sitting at the “office” could signal to them that you are working and should not be bothered.

When you need to relax or do some other things, set a timer

Working from home is great because you don’t feel tied to your desk. You can move about and do what you like. This is dangerous because you could easily get distracted by housework or TV and lose your motivation to work. The key is to establish a timer so that your five-minute break doesn’t last an hour.

Get a productivity app

There is an app to fit every need. There are many apps that will temporarily block social media sites if you get distracted easily. ToDoist is a checklist app that can help you complete your daily tasks.

Set a daily work hours

It’s easy for people to lose their work-life balance when they work from home. It’s crucial to plan your day and set a time for self-care, work, and spending time with family and friends, both in person and online. You can log off when you are done working and resume your work tomorrow.

You have the freedom to choose the hours that work best for you. Some people are able to do a lot of work in the morning while others can focus and get the most done in the afternoon. You can determine when you are most productive by adjusting your work hours.
