We will admit it, we are suckers of a simple nail color. It’s one the greatest joys in this world. No matter if it’s a warm chocolate brown or a black classic, simple hues are timeless and can be paired with any outfit. Not to mention the many other dark winter nail colors that we treasure, but which are still a mystery to us.

However, we will be the first one to admit that we often turn to experts when we feel bold, festive, or adventurous for the season. This time, we asked celebrity nail artists to tell what their top nail trends are for winter. These nail trends will be worn no matter where you are this time of the year (gift-giving or party hopping), but they have compiled a list of top-rated ideas that everyone can rock. Some are timeless, while others might surprise you. Continue reading to discover the eight winter nail trends you will be able to rock this winter season.

1. Textures

Celebrity Manicurist Elle Gerstein believes this versatile design will outperform all others this season, especially as we moved into December. She says that textures are a big hit for holiday requests. They include shiny, bright glitter and foil-infused lacquer. Ella Hunt, from Dickinson, is one of the current fans. Request a texture look with materials such as gold foil ASAP, whether you are looking for a bright party design or a subtler pattern for the winter months.

2. Half Moon Designs in Gold

Brittney Boyce, celebrity nail artist and founder of Nails of LA, loves a shimmery, textured nail. But she is particularly fond of one design. A simple design for nail art that stands out is the gold half moon at the cuticle. This look can be customized with different metallic shades depending on your preference. You can choose from standard or rose gold, to orange bronze, or even bright orange. Instead of hand-creating the shape, you can use the Half Moon Guide by ORLY. This look can be achieved easily using a Nails of LA nail wrap.

3. Playful Abstract Art

Abstract nail designs are timeless. Boyce states that modern art-inspired nails still have a lot of appeal. It doesn’t matter if you want a bright version such as The Sara Tan press-ons by Nails of LA, or a monochromatic look using a neutral color like white, Terracotta, or Boba milk tea browns.

4. French Angled Tips

Are you not feeling like a simple French tip? This one might also be popular with celeb nail artists. You might try something more dramatic like an angled tip. Boyce says that a half-angled French tip can easily be made using Washi Tape. To clean the edges, you can use a dry brush that has been soaked in nail polish remover. For a complete look, apply a glossy topcoat to the entire nail. You don’t have to do this yourself but a pop-on set can be used.

5. Tips for Metallic French

Perhaps an angled tip isn’t for you, or you want to spice up your regular tip. You can add a metallic, festive shade to your tip. Boyce calls this the “it holiday look” because it is easy to wear and versatile enough for the whole season. A classic french tip with a shimmery color on an oval-shaped nail (either short, medium or long) is stunning for the holidays. This will lengthen your fingers and give it some texture. A silicone nail stamper is the best way to achieve the perfect french tip. Apply a coat of nail polish to your fingers, then place your finger tip along the bottom edge and press down. Even for shorter nails, this works!

6. Metallic and shimmery jewel tones

Boyce is certain that warm, rich colors will be the hottest trends this season. “My favourite nail colors evoke rich textiles such as shimmery silk or plush velvet, which will be huge this winter season. Think glamorous red carpet gowns with vibrant berries, warm reds and coppery oranges. Look for nail colors that have a rich, multidimensional look to achieve this effect.”

A shimmer-dusted design with your natural nails peeking through is elegant. This design is unique but subtle enough that it can be worn without a holiday. Nguyen’s favourite festive shade for this type of art is OPI’s You Had Me at Confetti.
