Five Shows Similar to Rick and Morty

It’s finally happening. This month Season 6 of Rick & Morty will be available on Netflix. It’s only the first episode, and all subsequent episodes will be available weekly.

If you’re like us, you have been watching Seasons 1-5 of Rick & Morty in anticipation for the new season. You’re in luck if you want something to fill the week while you wait to see each Rick and Morty episode on Netflix.

These five shows are very similar to Rick and Morty. Rick Sanchez would be a fan of these shows, and he has access to Interdimensional Cable.

BoJack Horseman

8.8 IMDb score stars Will Arnett and Amy Sedaris, Alison Brie is & Aaron Paul, Animation, Comedy & Drama, six seasons, released in 2014.

The animated series is very similar to Rick and Morty in that both deal with serious and dark subjects with humor. BoJack Horseman, the title character, is nihilistic like Rick.

BoJack Horseman has the right show for you if you enjoy the darker moments and the dark comedic moments of Rick and Morty.

Community

8.5 IMDb score stars Joel McHale and Danny Pudi, Donald Glover, Chevy Chase, Gillian Jacobs, and Chevy Chase. Comedy. 6 seasons.

Community, a comedy series that Dan Harmon created (and co-created Rick & Morty), is a very underrated comedy series. The story follows Jeff Winger, who is forced to return to his community college to finish his law degree. He meets an eccentric group and forms a study group.

Community is filled with the same kind of absurd humor and wacky characters that Rick and Morty fans love.

Final Space

8.2 IMDb score, stars Fred Armisen, Tom Kenny, Olan Rogers & David Tennant. Animation, Comedy. Three seasons of Adventure were released in 2018.

Rick and Morty often features space adventures and goofy humor. Final Space is a great alternative to Rick and Morty if you like that kind of humor. The story follows Gary, a prisoner who meets a mysterious alien whom he calls Mooncake.

Final Space is hilarious and surprisingly moving at times. It’s a series you should watch.

The Simpsons

8.7 IMDb score, stars Dan Castellaneta, Nancy Cartwright & Harry Shearer. Animation & Comedy, 33 seasons, 1989

Okay, let’s hear it. Rick and Morty boils down to the dysfunctional Smith family. The Simpsons are the original dysfunctional family. The classic series’ earlier seasons are still very much relevant.

We recommend that you stop watching after Seasons 9 and 10, as this is when quality starts to drop.

Solar Opposites

8.0 IMDb score. Stars Justin Roiland, Thomas Middleditch, & Sean Giambrone. Animation, Comedy & Sci-Fi, released 2020, 3 seasons

Justin Roiland co-created Solar Opposites and voiced both the titular characters. Solar Opposites has a very similar animation style and feel to Rick and Morty’s Interdimensional Cable skit.

Solar Opposites is a great alternative to Rick and Morty.
