Have you ever poured an excessive amount of foundation onto your hands, then only used a few drops on your foundation brush to get it off. Then you had to wash the rest down the sink. It eliminates the need to use tools or waste and picks up the exact amount of base and blends it into contours. Although the formula is a bit thicker than usual, it blends well into a medium-cover glowing finish. Although the shade range is smaller than other on this list, it was easy to match with all skin tones.

What is it like to wear

This base’s best feature is not its appearance, but the way it feels. It is flexible and lightweight, which makes it easy to blend with medium-cover foundations. It is described as cooling and does not feel sticky or clogged like some longer-lasting foundations. It remained looking fresh for six to seven hours after the first application. We would like to see more shades, but more is better. This will not be the best cover for those who love sheer BBs. Although it lacks sun protection, that is probably why it looks so good.

The Oil-rich formula of The Face Pencil made it easy to blend. We were able to use our fingers to apply it and then smudge it in. Even with oily skin, the coverage is light-medium and has a sheeny finish. This makes it a great party makeup companion to have instead of a large glass bottle that will spill into your bag.

What is it like to wear?

This is clean beauty, but Jones Road doesn’t use any parabens or cyclic silicons. It also contains moisturizing castor oil and shea butter, which help to nourish the skin. It has all the good stuff. It also comes with a clear base pigment that won’t make it look too chalky on darker skin tones. Do we really want you to scribble all over the face with this adorable little crayon? We aren’t. We suggest that you do the same as us and use it to touch up any redness, cover minor imperfections, or just to make sure you are not wearing makeup on those supposedly “makeup-free” days. This should make more sense.

This is rather unusual stuff. For sensitive skin types, there’s a sliding scale between what’s gentle on their skin and what looks and feels like a sophisticated formula. It’s not easy to create a foundation that does both. The packaging is sleek and prevents dribbles. There are 30 shades available in light and dark. We didn’t like the faint smell. It was almost like a mix of spearmint and coffee grounds. While some people may like the natural scent, we found it superior to artificial perfumes.

What is it like to wear

This foundation gives you a healthy, fresh look. It is medium-light in pigment, has a glow to it, and blurs over skin texture. For a stronger effect, you can layer the layers, but you shouldn’t unless there is something more important to conceal.

Let’s now talk about why this foundation is the best ultra-light foundation. It’s, unsurprisingly, very light on the skin. Truly, it feels like nothing, but it looks like something–a glowy, fresh, and hydrated complexion-of-your-dreams kind of something. It is water-based so it is very loose. We applied it with our hands, and didn’t have to worry about buffing or blending. It has blurring particles to smoothen over lines and pores, as well as mica crystal which reflects light for a ‘I drink green juice every day and I just had a very expensive facelift’ glow.

What is it like to wear

It actually lasts quite well for all its feathery-lightness. It will require a top-up after lunch for oily skin types. However, the cute squeezy tube makes it convenient to transport (unusual for Sisley, who prefer glass doorstop-type bottles). We would like to see more shades, but they can be used with most skin tones. This foundation is not for you if you are looking for a matte, high-cover formula or a ‘done’ look. If you have the money to spend on foundations, you will be happy you did.

The formula contains 86% hydrating ingredients, which is great news for those with dry skin. For oilier skin types, the soft matte finish was ideal for those who want sheen but not slick.

The creamy formula is absorbed into the skin without causing any irritation. It can also handle additional pigment without pesky pilling. There are many shades to choose from, so most skin types can find the right shade.

What is it like to wear

It’s quite buildable in terms of coverage. When it comes to staying power, this foundation did last quite well on testing, however it can sometimes see some transferring–especially in hotter or more humid environments. To get the best out of this amazing formula, you might consider adding a little setting powder to the top.
