How to dress sharp: guide for men
22.07.2022This is a question men often ask themselves in their lives. Sometimes, dressing sharply is about getting out of your comfort zone. This article will show you how to look sharper without feeling too out of your comfort zone.
It is worth it because being well-dressed and stylish in modern society has many benefits. You can achieve amazing things if you take care of your appearance.
You start to feel better about yourself, beyond all the other things that may happen. This alone should be enough to motivate you to improve your style in the coming year.
Let’s now get into style tips for men that will help you dress better.
1. ESTABLISH A PERSONAL UNIFIL
A man should have his own uniform for two main reasons: to avoid decision fatigue, and to save time. Many powerful men have a uniform. The navy suit was President Barack Obama’s primary uniform during his time in office.
According to Vanity Fair:
“I am trying to reduce the number of decisions. I don’t want make decisions about what I eat or wear. Because there are too many other choices to make.”
Obama is not the only one. Take a look at Mark Zuckerberg’s sea of gray T-shirts and Hoodies, or Steve Jobs’ iconic blue turtlenecks and jeans in black. Simplicity and efficiency.
A personal uniform is the best thing for your style in this year. A personal uniform saves time and allows you to focus on what is important.
2. LEVEL UP YOUR PLAYING GAME
Layering is a smart and stylish fashion choice for men who are well dressed. Layers that are lighter and more breathable can be placed closest to your body. Then, you can layer thicker layers on top.
For those cold winter days, you can wear a base layer such as a thermal or undershirt. You can then layer a button-down or flannel shirt with a light-weight vest, and then a textured wool jacket with a scarf. If it is cold, you can add a topcoat or down coat with leather gloves.
Layering up can help you stay warm and look dapper. Layers can be added or subtracted depending on the temperature.
3. FIND A TAILOR THAT YOU CAN TRUST
The key to being stylish is to have healthy relationships with people who make them feel and look good. This includes their barber, career mentor, spiritual advisor, and even their tailor.
Although you don’t need to be a friend-buddy, it is important to establish a relationship with your tailor. He will do a better job for you if he has more information about you, including your style preferences and goals.
4. TAKE CARE OF YOUR CLOSET
Every well-dressed man knows the importance of caring for their clothes. This includes ensuring that sweaters and knits hang on high-quality wooden hangers and pressing and drying any garments that are required.
They know how to use a shoehorn to slide into their best shoes and to extend the life of their oxfords.
Finally, there is another area that is often overlooked: jeans care and maintenance. Many men don’t wash their jeans enough. These staples can be worn for much longer than you think.
You’ll not only be able to keep your dark jeans and indigo clean, but also save water by not having to wash them again. This is where the good old smell test comes in handy.
Although it may not be high on your priority list, a well-kept closet will make your style look better.
5. TAKE CARE OF YOUR APPEARANCE
Men can look great, just as clean clothes are ideal. It’s important to have a skincare regimen. This is especially important as you age.
Over the past two years, my skincare regimen has included the Tiege Hanley Level 3 skincare system. This includes a daily cleanse, scrub, moisturizers for the morning and evening, eye cream, super serum, and an AM/PM moisturizing routine. This complete skincare regimen includes all the necessary ingredients for good skin care day and night.
Your personal style is influenced by your appearance. You can’t expect any outfit to give you a glowing complexion, so take care of yourself from head to foot.
6. ACCESSORIZE WITH INTENTION
Accessories can be dangerous. If your watch is too big for you, or worse, if it’s too small for you, don’t over-accessorize. If you’re unsure, remove one accessory before leaving your house.
When I was at the height of my accessory obsession, when I received monthly subscription boxes for Gentleman’s Box and Sprezzabox, I often wore too much. It was a sign of how inept I was about dressing better, which is something that I regret.
You would see me most days wearing a patterned necktie, a pocket square, lapel pin, and a tie bar. For me, I have 2-3 too many accessories. Even though I don’t consider myself to be a watch person, I will always wear one when I go out of the house.
I don’t have a problem with fashion watches such as Vincero Watches. If guys like the look of them, they can wear them. It doesn’t match my current aesthetic, which is smaller dial watches such as the Seiko 5 and Hamilton Khaki Field. These are excellent entry-level mechanical watches.
You are a man who can show his personality by accessorizing with intent. Remember that restraint is a powerful tool.
7. KNOW YOUR MEASUREMENTS
I would guess that most men don’t know what their measurements are. I didn’t know my measurements until I started to care about how I look. Because I started ordering custom suits, it was especially important to me that I knew my measurements.
There’s a good possibility that you have ordered MTM (made-to-measure) products before. Even though each MTM company takes your measurements differently, it is helpful to have this knowledge to be able to describe how you like your suits, shirts, and pants to fit down to the precise number.
Knowledge is power. Knowing your measurements can help you to determine the right fit for your clothes every time you place an order online.
