The 2022 Oscars: Seven top makeup, hair, and beauty trends
06.04.2022There were plenty of moments to be swooned over at the 94th Academy Awards. These included Kristen Stewart and Timothee Chalamet’s almost-shirtless appearances, as well as Beyonce’s opening performance.
We were also captivated by the amazing makeup and hairstyles that were displayed on the red carpet, aside from the obvious frivolity and gowns.
The after-party was a great place to see a lot of new trends, including slicked-back, wet hairstyles and vintage Hollywood glamour. We have compiled the top beauty takeaways of the evening.
Wet look hair
A few spectacular red carpet appearances have made the wet-look hair trend more popular than ever. Hunter Schafer wore the most stylish slicked-back look at the Vanity Fair Party. Her hair was dangling down her back, and a few strands were tucked behind her ears. She also had a few strands pinned over her sides.
Kourtney Kardashian and Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Tracee Scott all sported their own wet-looks and slicked-back hair moments on the Oscars red Carpet.
Vintage glamour in soft shades
Red carpet was filled with throwbacks to Hollywood glamour. Billie Eilish’s slicked-up bob, and Venus William’s half-updo imitating the 60s were just two examples. Zendaya’s minimalist, self-applied glow. Zoe Kravitz’s Audrey inspired baby fringe and rosy cheeks.
There were many nods to classic beauty as well as soft glam looks in blushing pinks. Diane Guerrero, Orange is the New Black actress and Encanto star, channeled Brigitte Bardot’s style with this volume-boosting, pushed-back look. It was accompanied by a similar rosy glow to Kravitz.
Bobs and Lobs
Numerous stars chose chic, shorter hairstyles on the red carpet. This allowed us to pay more attention to the amazing sartorial choices. Maya Rudolph had her shiny, smooth hair curled below her chin. Serena Williams looked stunning with her chin-grazing cut and sharp edges. Alexander Armand created the striking hair style.
Sultry, smoky eyes
A dramatic, smokey eye look on the red-carpet is a must. This was what Kristen Stewart, Vanessa Hudgens and Ariana DeBose demonstrated, as well as Zendaya’s Vanity Fair look.
While most of the makeup artists who opted for this trend kept it modern with a modern nude lips, Georgie Eisdell went all out with a red lip to Anya Taylor-Joy’s Vanity Fair party.
Bombshell curls
Another style that is sure to be a hit on the red carpet? Bombshell waves in their classic form. They were perfected on Penelope Cruz and Lily James, as well as a relaxed version on Oscars newcomer Alana Haim. But Rita Ora stole the show at the Vanity Fair After Party with her va va voom hair, created by Sami Knight, paired with a classic red lip and bronze eyes.
Braided updos for sisterlocks
At the Awards, intricate hairstyles were also popular with stars like Halle Bailey Stephanie Beatriz, Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens wearing braided updos or loc styles. The star of the evening was Lupita Nyong’o. Vernon Francois, her long-time hair stylist, created this stunning sisterlocks look that combines basket weaving, wefting, and loc extension techniques.
Middle parts
TikTok has been saying this for some time now. The Oscars officially declared it: the moment is in the middle. The red carpet was a perfect showcase for the style of Maddie Ziegler (dancer, actress), Becky G (performer), and Este Haim (singer-songwriter) who wore the look to perfection.
