The fashion collaborations of 2022 everyone is talking about
07.06.2022Fashion 2022 already looks great after 2021’s exciting collaborations. There are a number of outstanding collabs announced already. These limited-edition launches, whether it’s Balmain partnering with Barbie, Dior making a foray into fitness, or Prada reimagining Adidas classics, are lighting up the fashion world. We’ve compiled a list of the most important fashion collaborations this year.
Adidas by Prada
The powerhouses in sportswear and fashion have teamed up again to create a third installment of their unique partnership, following the success of their previous collaborations. The duo will release their first ever capsule collection, which is not limited to trainers. It’s centered on sustainability. Reimagining luxury sportswear through an environmentally-friendly lens, all nylon will now be replaced by Prada’s Re-Nylon fabric. This fabric is made from recycled plastics waste from the oceans. This 21-piece collection will include staples such as tracksuits and anoraks as well as bucket caps, bags, and a reimagined version of Adidas Forum trainers that is Prada-branded.
By Far x Mimi Cuttrell
The 90s inspired accessories label By Far – best known for their chic miniature bags and elegant pumps – has teamed up with stylist-of-the-moment Mimi Cuttrell, whose clients include Gigi and Bella Hadid on a capsule collection of shoes and bags. Cuttrell is known for her ability to spot the latest trends and bring her red-carpet experience to the label. The new silhouettes include mini evening bags with crystals and skyscraper platform heels. These pieces, made from soft French Nappa Leather specially created for the brand are perfect as wardrobe staples.
Technogym and Dior Vibe
This latest collaboration between Technogym and the French luxury fashion house Dior is a great incentive to stay fit in the new year. The Maison is opening a series pop-up shops to show off their new sportswear as part of the Dior Vibe collection. Featuring bold patterns – including the instantly-recognisable Dior Etoile and Oblique prints – across leggings, sports bras and anoraks, the collection also includes accessories, shoes and bags. The best part is that the pair has created a limited-edition line of exercise equipment. These range from a treadmill and bench to an exercise ball with the Dior star. It’s never been more fashionable to work out. Harrods is now open for the London pop-up.
Etro x Harris Reed
Harris Reed, a London-based designer, has teamed up with Etro, an Italian fashion house, to create a limited-edition line of silk blouses that are genderless. The capsule is inspired by the late 60s/early 70s. It features two styles with voluminous shaping, blouson sleeves, and a pussy bow. All pieces are made with paisley- or floral-print deadstock fabric from Etro, in keeping with the designer’s constant message about upcycling.
Loewe x Studio Ghibli
Following last year’s collaboration with My Neighbour Totoro cult film, Loewe has teamed up with Studio Ghibli to create a new capsule line. This time, the collection will feature the characters from the award-winning 2001 film Spirited Away. This range features handcrafted leather goods, graphic T-shirts, and large knits that feature stills from Spirited Away. The brand, based in Madrid, has introduced pieces that use a Japanese technique called boro. This involves the patchwork of scraps of fabric. The accessories are what really shine. Some of Loewe’s most beloved bags, such as the Puzzle, Hammock, and Amazona, have been reimagined using cute characters and critters from the film.
Balmain x Barbie
Balmain’s new collaboration is what’s bringing us joy in 2022. Balmain has teamed up to Barbie to create a playful limited edition collection. The emphasis is on fun. There’s a lot of pink in the collection, as Olivier Rousteing has chosen a palette of colours that includes everything from pale blushes to bright fuchsia, and more than 50 pieces. Balmain’s iconic bags have been combined with Barbie packaging to create unique hybrids. Badges, t-shirts, and hoodies were designed to blend the doll’s distinct aesthetic with the latest silhouettes of the maison. In honor of Barbie’s lover, Ken, the unisex range will also include ready-to-wear pieces. There will also be an online auction featuring a number of Barbie and Ken NFTs.
Gucci x The North Face: Chapter 2
The North Face and Gucci have teamed up again to bring you a second chapter in their partnership. The ready-to-wear collection includes mountain parkas and bombers, as well as hiking boots with the iconic GG monogram. Both brands continue to use Econyl, a sustainable fabric made from regenerated fishing wires and down certified by Control Union to meet the Responsible Down Standard.
Charles & Keith x Shushu/Tong
Charles & Keith is a Singapore-based accessories company. Keith has been a part of high-profile collaborations before, including partnering with Cecilie Bahnsen (Danish designer). The label is now launching a capsule collection with Shushu/Tong, a rising Gen Z brand. Shushu/Tong’s signature ethereal style is centered around the rose and this limited-edition collection includes two bags and two shoes. The striking pieces include the patent leather Mary Janes with square toes in black and red, as well as the rose-detailed straps. These are accompanied by a classic red box shoulder bag with rose-print embellishment. A black version has a single rose.
