iOS 16 beta is now available for all iPhone users, whether they are using an older compatible device or the iPhone 14.

One new feature that is sweeping people’s minds is a TikTok viral video, which shows how simple it is to instantly crop objects from photos. It has close to 500,000 likes at the time of writing. It’s a favorite feature of iOS 16, and Henry T. Casey is obsessed.

The video shows an adorable dog that is cropped instantly from a photograph. It then gets pasted into iMessages with no background clutter. Even though it was originally announced by Apple in July, it is still quite remarkable.

How to copy, isolate and share subjects in iOS 16

As promised, I am now the proud owner of an iPhone 14 Pro. Let me explain how it works. It relies on machine learning and image analytics features that were introduced with the A12 Bionic Chip. This means that only iPhones made after 2018 (i.e. iPhone XS or iPhone XR), can perform this feat.

1. Crop a photo that has a clearly defined subject.

2. Keep your finger on the subject that you wish to isolate and hold it down until a glowing white line appears around its edge. Then release. Now you’ll be able to copy the image to your clipboard, or to share it directly to another app.

3. And voila! It is now the focus of this WhatsApp message.

It’s very impressive. It reminds me of a brilliant iOS feature that my friend discovered by accident, which allows you to copy and paste text from previously saved images.

It works the same way. Simply open a picture with text, then press down on it. Next, adjust the selector dots so that you copy the desired part. It is now working its magic on my Kindle Paperwhite’s lock screen.
