Ways to Get Rid of Sunless Tanner in Few Minutes
02.12.2021Let’s face it, who hasn’t applied a sunless tanning product after a night out only to find that the next day they have transformed into a tiger? As an emergency, you can use lemon juice and a flannel to get rid of it. It has never worked for us. How can you get rid of the residue without exposing your skin to wire wool? Jules Von Hep is the global director of Tan-Luxe and the best tanner when you want to look radiant and golden.
Von Hep claims that he sees bad tans everywhere that he goes. He doesn’t hesitate to tell people. He’ll tell his colleagues if they have streaky hands and will let them know, but he has been known to be tempted to tell people that he spy on their commutes (you’ve been warned). The tan-over is his term for it. He does, however, believe that prevention is better than treatment. Von Hep says that the key to avoiding streaky skin is to prepare beforehand (moisturizing is key). However, if you are really in a troubled orange mess, there are some hacks you can use to get out of it.

When it’s all over your body
Sometimes it’s more than a few streaks. It can be all over your body. This is the worst situation you could find yourself in. You have a different color than you thought. You are now officially The One with Ross’s Tan. Von Hep suggests that you purchase a body clay mask for this situation (he recommends The Body Shop’s). He says that while he understands this is dependent on the time, a body mask made of clay will draw out impurities from the skin and take out the color.

There are products that can be used to remove sunless tanning, such as the Bondi Sands Self Tan Eraser. This product claims to remove self-tanner in five minutes with minimal scrubbing.

He also shared a tip with us that was time-sensitive: Go to the gym and use the steam room or swim. Any chlorinated water will reduce your tan.
It’s all around your hands, ankles, elbows, and fingers
There are many signs that a tan is bad, but the most obvious is when the skin has not been properly blended between the fingers and the nails. Von Hep suggests that you moisturize all areas before applying. Lip balm can also be applied to your nails to prevent staining. He says that these areas are “like sponges.”
To prevent streaks and over-staining, you can apply Norvell Pro Blending DHA Barrier Cream on those hot spots before applying your self-tanner.

We all make mistakes, and Von Hep has a wonderful homemade remedy that can lift your self-tan. It only requires a squeeze of lemon. Use two teaspoons of bicarbonate soda, a few drops of body oil and half a lemon juice to rub the area you wish to remove the tan.
When it’s on Your Face
The problem with the face is rarely a problem. According to our expert, “The tan fades quickly because we smile and move the faces a lot.” To get rid of it fast, you can mix a cleanser with oil. You can make your face look more natural by using an exfoliator and cleansing oil. Von Hep says, “I would always apply 2 coats to the body and 1 on the face.” Tan-Luxe’s The Water spray tanning product is his favorite. He keeps it at arm’s reach so that it looks natural.

It’s all on your legs
This trick will save your life if you have a large streak on your legs. Von Hep says, “Put some tanner onto a small makeup sponge. Apply the tanner around the streak. Then, use a towel to blend the two areas. Wait for the tan to develop. You can also use the Isle of Paradise’s Over It Magic Self Tan Eraser to remove all traces of tan and start again. Spray it on your legs and wait for five minutes before washing it off.”

To avoid this, apply your tan properly. Von Hep recommends using a mitt. He says that you need to blend any mousse, spray, oil or other product with a mitt. The St. Tropez Double Sided Luxe Tan Applicator mitt is a great choice.

If you are still having trouble applying your tan, you can try a gradual tan. “Tanning can be a confidence-building activity that only takes practice to perfect. Von Hep suggests that if you are nervous, start by using easier products. For a subtle glow, try Tan-Luxe The Gradual Illuminating Tan Lotion.
